42 Luanda: Bringing a Tech & Start-up Culture Locally!
Sitting proudly on Angola’s coastline, overlooking the Atlantic ocean, Luanda serves as Angola’s capital city. A major cultural and industrial center in Africa, Luanda is the continent’s 7th richest city, and boasts a population of nearly 10 million, almost a third of the country’s total. A little over year ago, it became the site of a new 42 campus -the network’s 1st in sub-saharan Africa- offering students from all walks of life an opportunity to learn coding.
“With 42 Luanda, I have the opportunity to make a positive impact on my country and society.”
In 2023, Nyanga Tyitapeka co-founded 42 Luanda. Having already dedicated herself to improving the tech sector in Angola for 10 years, she and her colleague came across an article about 42. Immediately seeing the potential positive impact of a free and innovative coding school in their city, she set out to establish a campus in Angola. With a passion for the present and a vision for the future, Tyitapeka shares her journey and explains her decision to bring 42 to her home country.
