Luxembourg is known for being an economic powerhouse and being one of the four institutional seats
of the European Union. The number of languages spoken in such a small country leaves most people
intrigued, yet the digital skills gap is also noticeable in Luxembourg. To help close this gap, the Ministry
of Education, Children and Youth set forth to launch a 42 Campus in Luxembourg.
Located in the heart of a historically significant area, the campus is situated in the new urban
neighborhood of Belval in the south of the country. Indeed, up until the mid-20th century, the region was
the center for one of Luxembourg’s most prolific industries: the steel plants. After the tertiary sector
took over the economy, it was largely abandoned. But now, Belval is the proud product of an industrial
wasteland converted into the new center of education and entertainment in Luxembourg. Many
important infrastructures have their main residence in Belval, such as the University of Luxembourg or
the Luxembourg Learning Center.
The campus is located in Esch/Belval in the immediate vicinity of the University of Luxembourg and in a
place of innovation, research and education. In addition to the university, there are numerous
restaurants, supermarkets, fitness studios, doctors and pharmacies, as well as everything else you need
to live.
With the MyCard you get when starting Ecole 42 in Luxembourg, you have access to the student
restaurants operated by the official food service of the Ministry of Education. Belval features 4 such
restaurants offering various menus. Alternatively, there is a variety of restaurants and fast-food stores.
The Belval Plaza Shopping Center features many different shops from supermarkets to electronics and
clothing, and also a movie theater. In the direct vicinity, there are several fitness and sports centers as
well as Luxembourg’s biggest concert hall, the Rockhal.
